High Beeches Newsletter 02.03.12

Thank you to everybody who raised money for our sponsored Welly Walk. The final total raised was an amazing £4900. This will be used to purchase large play equipment e.g. climbing frame etc for the junior children. The School Council will be working with the children to find out what is required and I am hoping that this can be purchased and installed before the summer. A special mention must go to these five children for raising huge amounts of money well done and thank you to:
Neel Bhopal
Finn Heywood
Elise Wilson
Freya Barker
Alfie Reed
Well done to the Early Years class for raising a massive £1007 and Year 1 for raising £1162.

Thank you to Year One for their excellent assembly this morning. It is wonderful to be able to share the learning which is taking place in all classrooms throughout the school.
Dates for other assemblies will be sent out soon.

All orders for school summer dresses must be in school by Friday 23rd March. If you would like to discuss any uniform issues please speak to Mrs Murray.

Thank you to everybody involved in the Year 2 Cake Sale and to all who supported the event. The total raised was £67.13, well done.

Since altering the school office we have been unable to find a suitable bed for our new medical room. If anybody has a small fold up bed (z bed style) which you would like to donate to the school please speak to Mrs Brannon. The Early Years class are also in need of toy pushchairs any donations greatly appreciated

Next week is ‘Get Ready For Gold Week’ organised by the Herts Catering Service. Each day the children who have a school meal will receive a sticker which they can put onto their chart which will be given out on Monday. The completed charts will then be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win super prizes.

Sports News
Netball
The netball teams played exciting matches against St Dominic this week. Despite losing 7-3 the A team showed a considerable improvement in their play and showed much better skills in defence. They had a couple of super passing sequences that led to impressive goals. The B team notched up another win, beating St Dominic 8-2. Again, there were some lovely examples of interceptions and teamwork, not to mention wonderful shooting. Well done to everyone in the netball squad who played. Players of the match were Becky Shott (A team) and Sophie Jackson (B team).
Football
The Football teams also played St Dominic this week. The A team played superbly against a very strong team winning the match 3-1. The team demonstrated excellent passing and all defended very well. The B team played a very close game which ended 0-0. Again the passing was excellent and everybody worked hard to ensure a close game. Well done to all involved. Players of the match were George Kershaw (A team) and Nathaniel Snowden (B team)

Pupil Success
Congratulations to the following pupils:
Georgia Clothier (Yr 4) was the winner for her category (Preliminary Piano Grades 1 and 2) at the Musicale Eisteddfod
William Mitchell (Yr 6) who has passed his ‘Main slope ready’ certificate for Snowboarding
Becky Shott (Yr 6) who has passed her Level 7 Skate UK award for ice skating

Sport Relief Mile
Sport Relief is back and coming to Harpenden. The town is set to host its first ever Sainsbury’s mile on Sunday 25th March. The event will begin at the Harpenden Sports Centre. To enter the mile or for more details visit www.sportrelief.com .We will also be completing activities in school on Friday 23rd March to raise funds and will be selling official merchandise in school more details to follow next week. Some items will be on sale at Parents Consultation Evening next week.

Dummy Cake Icing
For our celebration assembly we have a ‘dummy Birthday Cake’ which is iced. The children are then able to blow the candles out on the cake. Unfortunately the cake is now very old and is beginning to fall apart. If anybody is able to ice a dummy cake we would happily provide all materials. It would be a shame for this lovely High Beeches tradition to come to an end.

Gardening Club
Thank you to the parents who have started up the High Beeches Gardening Club. We are always looking for more volunteers so if you would like to help please speak to Mrs Murray.
If anybody has any unwanted garden equipment, pots, plants or seeds the gardening club would really appreciate any donations.
