The children have brought home their sponsor forms for the ‘Giant Obstacle Race’ next week. This is an exciting event and we really would like to do all we can to raise money towards the Cardiac Centre at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. The nurses from the centre came in and spoke to the children in assembly to discuss healthy eating and the importance of keeping our hearts healthy. The Cardiac Centre will enable procedures to be carried out at the hospital rather than having to send patients to other hospitals in the Country.
Next week we are taking part in National Sports Week. As a part of National Sports week we will be holding a Sports week in school next week. Thank you to Mrs Draycon for all of her hard work in organising a daily sporting activity for each class. Thank you to the Parents / Carers who have given up their time to come into the school and share their expertise with the children. All children should wear a ‘sports kit’ throughout the week next week. This does not have to be the school PE kit but should be something appropriate for sports activities.
Well done to Year Five for their wonderful assembly this morning and to Year 6 for their impeccable behaviour during the residential visit.

Sports Update
On Tuesday ten children from Year 5 represented the school at the local Kwik Cricket Festival. The children played extremely well considering they were playing against teams of Year 6 children from other schools and due to the weather had little preparation time. The team finished in seventh place out of the twelve starting schools which is excellent. Very well done to Oliver Card, Joshua Dooley, Tim Lewis-Lim, Johnny Mawditt, George Kershaw, Fiona McArdle, Jessica Nottingham, Georgia Clothier, Georgina Klein and Abigail Roy.

Samuel Pesez (Yr 3) who has achieved his Silver award for Kumon Maths
George Kershaw (Yr 5) who represented Hatfield Swimming Club in the Final Round of the Peanuts League on Saturday evening. Hatfield won and are now ranked first in the County
Joseph Clothier (Yr 5) who passed his Grade 1 clarinet exam with merit.
Abbie Thomas (Yr 2) has passed her British Gymnastics Award Grade 3
Daniel Thomas (Yr 1) has passed his British Gymnastics Award Grade 6
Oliver Card (Yr 5) who played in the Harpenden u10’s cricket team which won the Lancot 10/10 tournament on 11th June and was a member of the Herts U10,s team who secured a convincing win over Cambridgeshire winning by 180 runs!
FOHBS Needs You!
The FOHBS committee needs you. Our AGM is on Wednesday, 18th July at the school and before that date we need to find someone (or some people) to be the new chair / co-Chair. If you are thinking that you do not have enough time then don’t let that put you off :
The FOHBS chair role is varied and does not mean you end up doing everything. We currently have a fantastic committee of which five members are staying on for the following year and will help you out in your new role. Yes, you will have to attend and ‘chair’ (the clues in the title!) our meetings which currently happen once every six weeks or so. Yes, you will help out and maybe take lead roles on fund raising events for the school. Yes, you will potentially meet new parents. Yes, you will get a lot out of it. The whole point of FOHBS is to make money for your child’s school, but in the process have fun, and provide social events (May Ball, Comedy Night, Discos, Movie Night, Christmas and Summer Fair) for both adults and children.
FOHBS runs as a charity with charity status which means that we have to have certain roles filled, one of which is the role of Chair. If no-one comes forward and offers to be Chair then FOHBS will not be able to continue. Due to some fantastic events and incredible hard work and efforts over the last few years FOHBS has raised money for many items, such as six i-pads, new dining tables, the library area, to name a few. Mr Driver has just ordered some new playground equipment which will take a chunk of money out of the FOHBS account. All of these purchases could not happen without the events organised by FOHBS. Unfortunately, if there is no FOHBS then not only would there be no events, there would be no extra funds. Current Chairs are Andrew Dadswell and Fiona Ryan. We would be more than happy to hear from you should you be wanting more information on the role. Please therefore, email me at Dadswell@ntlworld.com or talk to Fiona in the playground.
Our next big event is the Summer Fair – what better time to get involved and shadow either myself or Fiona to see what the role entails.
Gardening Club
I am sure that you have all noticed how wonderful the front of the school and other areas in the school gardens are looking at the moment. This is all thanks to Mrs Miller and the Gardening Club. More helpers are needed each week please. Don’t think that you need to do every week - a one off help is great. Anybody able to offer any time to help out please speak to Sarah Miller – 07841 586651
