High Beeches Primary School Newsletter 19th October 2012

High Beeches Primary School Newsletter 19th October 2012

Thank you for the amazing response to the recent clothing collection. I am very pleased to say that the total weight in clothing was 652 Kg, which translated to £326 for the school. Thank you to FoHBS and in particular Mrs Henman for organising this. Next collection is 25th March.

The Year 5 cake sale raised £73.90, an excellent start to the year. Thank you to the parents for the cake contributions, members of FoHBs and all those who supported this event.

Next week is Walk To School Week. We try to encourage as many children as possible to walk to school during this week, even if they are dropped off slightly further away and walk further than normal. Each walk will gain a sticker to add to the class chart and the class with the most walks will be given a prize. Walking to school has many benefits, not only is it good for your health and the environment, but it’s also fun and a great opportunity to socialise with your child, so why not try and include a ten minute walk in your journey to school.

If children are wearing headbands in their hair please remember that these must be made of fabric and be the same colour as the school uniform. They should not be too wide.

If your child is leaving school with another adult please do ensure that the class teacher is aware. A note can be given to the teacher in the morning or, if this is a last minute arrangement, please inform the school office.

Please return any Gym letters for next half term to the office ASAP in order for Debbie to able to organise her clubs.

Any outstanding dinner money must be paid to the school office.

Well done to the Learners of the Week, we are very proud of you all.

Rotary Shoeboxes

We are supporting the Rotary Shoebox Appeal again this year to help the orphaned children in war-torn countries. Families are asked to fill a shoebox with items for a child, teenager or household. The details of suggested items are on a leaflet which can be collected from the office from Monday.  Please bring £1 in exchange for a shoebox as this covers the cost. The boxes will only be available until next Friday and we will be collecting them back in the first week after half term. Last year we sent off over 100 boxes, our best ever total but it would be fantastic to exceed this!

CBBC Horrible Histories - Gory Games Applications welcome

E mail from a producer at the BBC – application forms available in the school office.

We are currently looking for participants between the ages 8 and 12 for a new series of 'Horrible Histories -Gory Games'. I believe we had some great applications from your pupils for our previous series and wondered if any of your pupils would like to apply. We like applications from Horrible Histories fans who are confident, chatty and don't mind getting gunged!

If you have seen the show you will know it's based on historical facts from the Horrible Histories series, we ask our contestants a variety of history questions, and they get the chance to play messy, fun games based on various historical events. Series two is currently being shown on CBBC, and we are going to be filming our next series in February.

I've attached an application form, Pupils need to get permission from their parent/guardian and then fill out the form and post it back to the address on the front. Or they can bring it back to school and we can send you out a stamped addressed envelope to send them all back.

Our closing date for applications in January… but the quicker children apply the better!

Newsletter 12.10.12

High Beeches Primary School Newsletter 12th October 2012

Thank you to all the parents and carers who contributed to the FoHBs clothing collection this week. Details can be found below.

Year 6 enjoyed a day at the old courtrooms in St Albans as a part of their Victorian topic and Year 5 had a super day at Hatfield House linked to their Tudor topic. It is so pleasing to hear of the learning from the visits they really do enthuse and engage the children and we try to take every opportunity to enhance the learning for the children. Year 2 also visited Pan Autos as part of the Move with the Times topic, what better way to learn the names of the parts of a car than from a mechanic? Thank you for all your continued support in enabling us to offer the children these and other extended learning opportunities.

Well done to the Learners of the Week, we are very proud of you all.

Newsletter 05.10.12

We all enjoyed the visit from the author Adam Guillain on Wednesday. He shared stories with the children and demonstrated in the workshops how story telling can enhance writing. Assembly stories may never be the same again! We have focused on National Book Week throughout the school with the children engaged in many activities related to books and stories based upon the theme of heroes; they have all enjoyed dressing as their hero for a day.

Thank you to everybody who contributed to the Harvest Festival collection. We collected an amazing eleven boxes of food for the ‘Open Door’ charity which have now been collected. Your support was greatly appreciated by the charity. We were pleased to welcome Mr Fellows to lead the Harvest Festival assembly.

Well done to the Learners of the Week, we are very proud of you all.
