Newsletter 12.10.12

High Beeches Primary School Newsletter 12th October 2012

Thank you to all the parents and carers who contributed to the FoHBs clothing collection this week. Details can be found below.

Year 6 enjoyed a day at the old courtrooms in St Albans as a part of their Victorian topic and Year 5 had a super day at Hatfield House linked to their Tudor topic. It is so pleasing to hear of the learning from the visits they really do enthuse and engage the children and we try to take every opportunity to enhance the learning for the children. Year 2 also visited Pan Autos as part of the Move with the Times topic, what better way to learn the names of the parts of a car than from a mechanic? Thank you for all your continued support in enabling us to offer the children these and other extended learning opportunities.

Well done to the Learners of the Week, we are very proud of you all.

The pumpkins look fantastic and we would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Haines for all of her efforts in collecting the pumpkins, working with the children and ensuring they were delivered to Luton Hoo safely. Details of the event are on the leaflet below or on their website http://www.lhwg.org.uk/Pumpkins.html

CBBC Horrible Histories - Gory Games Applications welcome

E mail from a producer at the BBC – application forms available in the school office.

We are currently looking for participants between the ages 8 and 12 for a new series of 'Horrible Histories -Gory Games'. I believe we had some great applications from your pupils for our previous series and wondered if any of your pupils would like to apply. We like applications from Horrible Histories fans who are confident, chatty and don't mind getting gunged!

If you have seen the show you will know it's based on historical facts from the Horrible Histories series, we ask our contestants a variety of history questions, and they get the chance to play messy, fun games based on various historical events. Series two is currently being shown on CBBC, and we are going to be filming our next series in February.

I've attached an application form, Pupils need to get permission from their parent/guardian and then fill out the form and post it back to the address on the front. Or they can bring it back to school and we can send you out a stamped addressed envelope to send them all back.

Our closing date for applications in January… but the quicker children apply the better!
