Newsletter 11.1.13

Newsletter 11.1.13

Happy New Year! I hope that you have had a restful and enjoyable Christmas holiday. It has been wonderful to see the children return with such enthusiasm.

I would like to welcome Mrs Cartwright to High Beeches who will be working in the role of school Administrative Assistant. I am sure that you will be very happy here. Mrs Murray has taken the role of School Secretary following Mrs Brannon’s retirement.

Today is a very special day for one member of the school staff team. Mrs Cox has been a Midday Supervisor for 25yrs at High Beeches School. She epitomises everything that we could wish High Beeches to be. Mrs Cox is always caring, considerate, knows all of the children, listens with interest, joins in with games and wants all of the children to enjoy their time here. I have never met another Midday Supervisor who actually knows how much each child is capable of eating and whether or not they are trying to sneak out eating less that they usually do.

Thank you, Mrs Cox, for all that you have done for the High Beeches Community over the past 25yrs. Mrs Cox knows that she cannot leave as she is the only one who fully understands the dinner rota system, so I look forward to her being a part of the team for many years to come. Today Mrs Cox had a special meal with the children at lunchtime when gifts and flowers were presented to her from her colleagues.

Thank you to everybody who attended the school Christmas Fair - an amazing £2854 was raised. Thank you to FoHBs for organising this event and a special thank you to Mrs Nistala who donated all of the profit from her stall to the school.

We have a new telephone system in school. Please listen carefully to the prompts. To report an absence press 2 after the welcome message and leave full name, class and a reason for the absence.

In the event of severe weather and the school is closed we will notify BBC Three Counties Radio (103.8fm / 95.5fm or 630mw/1161mw) and Heart Dunstable 97.6fm. The notifications will either be read on air or displayed on the radio station websites. We will also send out a text via our text messaging service. Alternatively the information for all schools will be linked to the home page of www.hertsdirect.org.We will obviously use our best endeavours to ensure that the school remains open.

I hope that you have an enjoyable weekend.

HarpendenPlus Partnership
HarpendenPlus Partnership is organising a parenting workshop, About Boys, to be run by Parent Centred Support, for the Spring Term 2013. The workshop is for parents/carers of boys from 5 - 15 years of age. The two hour session will provide you with:
An understanding of your son’s development
Ways to provide him with boundaries and discipline
More confidence in ability to parent your son; understanding ‘why he does what he does’
How to motivate him
The workshop will cost £10 per person, but please contact us in case of financial difficulty or if you would like more information about the workshop.
To register your interest in attending a workshop, please contact us (email familysupport@saunceywood.herts.sch.uk; tel 07985 330 941) with your name, child's school and age and your phone and email contact details. Booking forms will be sent by email to all people have registered an interest in the workshop about 3 weeks before the sessions. Places will be allocated on the basis of first come first serve of return of the booking form and payment.
School Uniform reminder
We would like to start the new year with everyone following the school’s uniform policy. Please remember that girls should be wearing plain headbands/bobbles with no sparkles or large flowers. Watches should only be worn by Junior children as we feel that the Infants are not old enough to look after them in school, especially when they have to be removed for PE lessons. Thank you.
